SOHA 1, which is a subsidiary of the Medical Procurement Organization affiliated to the Iranian Red Crescent Society, was founded in 1991 and has been in operation since 1992. The premises are comprised of 240,000 square meters of land and 30,000 square meters of buildings, of which 12,000 square meters is allocated to the production unit and other supporting units, such as utilities, laboratories, administration, finances, transport, and storage areas, which are spread over the complex. The total workforce numbers approximately 700 of which 400 work on production and the rest in support units. The primary motivation to establish this co***ny was to provide 2ml and 5ml disposable syringes for the local market and thereby to eliminate dependency on foreign supplies and simultaneously to control the quality and quantity of local production. With the recognition of other local requirements, the management decided to develop production lines and diversify its production. The production of hemodialysis filters in 2 different types and 7 sizes, blood line tubing systems, leukocyte filters, infusion sets, fistula needles, microsets, dental needles, insulin syringes and IV catheters in 4 sizes. The above devices are produced by highly qualified and experienced personnel using the latest technologies. Modern automatic machines are used in clean rooms and controlled areas and production, using the highest quality of raw materials, is carried out under GMP regulations meeting both national and international standards for products. The factory was awarded “The Supreme Unit of the Year?by the Institute for Standards and Industrial Research of the Islamic Republic of Iran (ISIRI) in 2002. In addition, as well as meeting the obligatory standards the factory received a commendation from ISIRI for hemodialysis filters.
